Protect yourself from this dangerous disease this winter - we have appointments from 23 September available now for your annual flu jab. If you are 65 or over, or suffer from a chronic condition eg diabetes, asthma, you are eligible for a free flu jab. 2, 3 and some 4 year olds (those not started school yet) are also eligible. 4-9 year olds will normally be vaccinated at school but we can vaccinate them if preferred or they have been missed at school.
We are holding a Saturday clinic on 23 September which you can either book or just walk in.
Wednesday afternoons (weekly)
Tuesday and Thursday mornings & Tuesday afternoons (weekly)
A full service is offered for all vaccinations and advice required for foreign travel – the surgery is a registered Yellow Fever Centre. Clinics are run weekly on Thursday morning and Friday afternoon. To ensure adequate vaccination cover appointments should ideally be made at least one month prior to travel. There will be a charge for certain vaccinations. See the above tab for further information.
Wednesday and Thursday mornings (weekly)
Immunisation is recommended for all pre-school children and clinics are held Tuesday afternoons 13:30 to 15:30. You should call the practice to arrange an appointment for your child to be immunised.
Women from the age of 25 to 64 should have a cervical smear at least every five years. Appointments can be made with Sue Milner on Monday mornings, Tuesday afternoons, Anne Goulbourne on Wednesday afternoons or with any of the female Doctors. Patients are invited to be screened and notified of their result by post.
Sue Milner runs a Family Planning Clinic on Monday afternoons and Wednesday mornings. Alternatively you can see any doctor at the surgery.
Emergency contraception can be provided by a doctor or the family planning nurse by making an urgent appointment or speaking to the duty doctor/nurse by telephone. Alternatively, your pharmacist may be able to help.
Full pregnancy and postnatal care is offered by all doctors in conjunction with the community midwife who is at the surgery every Monday and Tuesday morning.
If you become pregnant, you should make an 'antenatal booking appointment' for 8-10 weeks into your pregnancy. The midwife will answer your questions about pregnancy and carry out a general health check. You will be seen regularly throughout your pregnancy either at the practice or local hospital, or, both.
The surgery recommends that patients who smoke should try and stop. Help can be obtained from the NHS Stop Smoking Service - details are available from our nurses, doctors or reception or the Smokefree Berkshire Helpline 0800 622 6360, or text QUIT to 66777.
If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements. This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required.
There is further information about countries and vaccinations required on the links below:
It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.
Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.

Travelling in Europe
If you are travelling to Europe the EU has published useful information for travellers on the European website.
Some services provided are not covered under our contract with the NHS and therefore attract charges. Examples include the following:
The fees charged are based on the British Medical Association (BMA) suggested scales and our reception staff will be happy to advise you about them along with appointment availability.
